WeirBaby's First Ultrasound!

So, we went to get the first ultrasound done today. I was told to drink like 32oz. of clear liquids before coming and that I couldn't use the bathroom till after the ultrasound was over. Not only was that entirely more difficult than I had thought (I was gagging towards the end because my body didn't want any more), but we found out later that it really wasn't necessary. Thankfully, that and feeling a bit nauseous from not eating much were the only downers of the trip.

It took close to half an hour total for her to look at everything and measure and get pictures. She said aside from making sure the baby's heart is beating normally and that the baby's size and measurements is consistent with the age the baby is supposed to be, we won't be able to tell much till around week 20-22. As she was moving around and taking the measurements we could see different parts of the baby and saw WeirBaby move several times. :) It was very cool and very relieving to actually "see" the baby and know that for now things look ok! We also were pleasantly surprised to learn that we are 15 weeks along! We thought we were only about 13-14wks. The marvels of modern technology (they help us count)! Due date is still the first week in January 2010.

When she was done measuring, she finally started looking to get a good picture of BabyWeir for us. It took about 9 minutes. She took two, which you can see on the Pics page. The first showed the baby's head tilted down so we couldn't see the whole face. Steve and I both thought to ourselves and later said that we think WeirBaby is camera shy just like dad! :) (It's funny how many alike thoughts we have.) After several minutes she finally got the second picture where we could see WeirBaby's face, belly and little hands and arms. The eyes actually look like dark spots because of the the instruments read the eye cavity.

We were very glad to be able to see WeirBaby and are hoping everything goes well till we can see more and get more info in another 5-7 weeks!

Thanks

Thanks for sharing good and useful information. It's natural to feel a little anxious about having a vaginal ultrasound. If you do feel anxious, you should discuss it with your doctor, midwife, nurse or sonographer beforehand.642-845 exam It's also a good idea to take someone else along with you. If it helps, you could also ask for a woman to carry out the ultrasound.646-563 exam The vaginal ultrasound will give a clearer picture of your baby earlier in pregnancy than an abdominal ultrasound. 642-373 exam
